I was struck by these verses this morning:
Normally it takes only eleven days to travel from Mount Sinai to Kadesh-barnea, going by way of Mount Seir. But forty years after the Israelites left Mount Sinai, on a day in midwinter, Moses gave these speeches to the Israelites, telling them everything the LORD had commanded him to say. Deuteronomy 1:2-3.
Moses was preparing the Israelites to enter the promised land. Their promised land. The land God had promised to give their ancestors Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The land they had wandered 40 years to final enter. The land flowing with milk and honey.
What should have taken them 11 days to get too, took 40 years. Their rebellion and disobedience caused them to wander the wilderness for those 40 years.
Sometimes we can walk in the wilderness not because of rebellion and disobedience, but because it is a new season of growth. Shedding off old ways, thoughts, habits, mindsets. Be encouraged! “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9.
Then again, sometimes we walk in the wilderness because of our rebellion and disobedience. Beloved, take heart! Ask your heavenly Papa to show you those area’s in your life of rebellion and disobedience. But don’t stop there. Confess and repent and ask the Holy Spirit to help you in your repentance; the turning away from rebellion and disobedience. He cherishes when we ask for his wisdom. “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” James 1:5.
You are dearly loved, wholly chosen and absolutely beautiful in His sight.
