In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. Ephesians 1:11,12.
And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. Ephesians 2:6,7.
Our stories are important because it displays God’s manifest glory of what He has done and is doing in our life and He creates the opportunity for us to share our personal message with others in hope that they too will freely choose Him.
Twice in the first two chapters of Ephesians we read “in order that.” We were predestined by God’s plan to have the gospel message shared with us and by our free will choose Jesus. When we did we were raised up with Christ and are seated with him in the heavenly realms.
Predestined in order that the hope we’ve placed in Jesus might be for the praise of His glory.
Raised up in order that in the coming ages He might show the incomparable riches of his grace, which He expressed to us in His kindness by sending His one and only Son to take our place on the cross.
We were created to be in perfect fellowship with God and live out our earthly life walking in His will. The challenges, struggles and trials we face are not given to us by a mean, distant or totalitarian God. Rather, He allows these things in order that we will choose to continue to praise Him (and prove the accuser wrong!). In order that His rich grace will be poured out. In order that all will have the opportunity to hear the good news of the gospel and choose Jesus!

Psalm 51:10 I call it a two-for, two promises one verse. Yes, there are other verses that are one verse and more than one promise but this verse has been speaking to me for quite some time. It has wrapped It’s arms around my heart in golden light and reminds me that only God can give me a pure heart. Only God can renew. Interestingly renew is another word for restore (and here I thought the season of restoration was completed!). Only God can give me a steadfast spirit.
A spirit that is well-seated, firm in purpose, securely positioned, not given to fluctuation or “moving off course.” While I can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens me I also want to remember by the very nature of the human spirit I can turn off course like a ship with a faulty rudder and find myself set aground unable to move. But when I stay connected to God and follow His path regardless of any circumstance I am facing it will be smooth sailing.
Abba, Father, may we seek you first each and everyday. May you cause your word, which is alive and active, to come alive for us. May we be a people who turn back to you and follow your ways. Amen

Ancient of days. One of my favorite names of God. It resonates deep down in my soul as if I have always mysteriously known Him as the Ancient of Days. Infinitely ancient day after day. In Aramaic it is attiq similar to our word for antique.
I love old things especially those that tell a story. If the horseshoe crab in this picture could talk it would tell us that it is, according to science, prehistoric descending from lineage 450 million years old and predating dinosaurs by 200 million years and considered a living fossil.
Think about that. Hundreds of millions of years old and yet the Ancient of Days created them. Do you wonder what they looked like before they evolved into what they are today? Were they bigger, much bigger, like dinosaur big? Why did they survive yet the dinosaurs they predated did not? Why would God leave a creature that evokes an innate feeling of ‘pre-historic’ within us for us to witness?
The answer my friends is God’s sovereignty and His gentle, reassuring nature that ties all things back to Him. He is before all creation. He created the heavens, the earth and the sea and all that is in them.
The Ancient of Days revealing Himself to you through all His creation. Are you looking?

I love a good thunder storm. Especially catching a glimpse of lightning and witnessing the brief surge of power crackling through the veins of electricity and marveling at the fact that I am looking at a live electrical current!
This is how I imagine God alive and powerful beyond my comprehension. This same power lives in me and in you as believers in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. The Holy Spirit is this power and He enables us to sustain all things by His powerful word. Staying secure in Jesus abiding in Him and being at home with Him teaches us to draw on His power and rely on Him and not ourselves.
As for me, I can sustain all things through Christ, who strengthens me with His power.
