Name Your Mountain

But Jesus. Jesus went out to the mountain to pray.

I’ve always thought the idea of a prayer closet as too confining, but that’s simply my personal preference. I’ve tried and I enjoy a wider space for this intimate time spent with God. I also realize, ‘prayer closet’ doesn’t have to be a literal closet.

We live in a small valley surrounded by hills, at the extreme western end of the beginning of the Sierra Mountains. Well, there is Mt. Diablo, but who really wants to go to devil mountain to pray?

But Jesus. Jesus went out to the mountain to pray. Jesus, God the Son, went to the mountain to pray. Not only did He go but He spent the night in prayer to God.

If we are to choose to continually invite Holy Spirit in, for His faithful and unending work of transforming our minds to think like Jesus, love like Jesus, speak like Jesus and act like Jesus, shouldn’t this also include a daily time, in a special place, for prayer?

What would it look like if you, if I, asked Jesus to take us deeper and spent the night in prayer? Would your circle of influence change? Would your community change? Would the world change?

Would you change?

Dear Friends, find your mountain and name it. Reach out to a few friends and form a prayer circle. Dedicate some evening hours to simply sit in His presence and ask Him what He would have you pray about. I would love to hear how you get into prayer mode. Please comment below!

Relationships grow by the amount of time we choose to nurture them.

Shalom!

  1. I’ve been attempting to spend more time with God lately, but so many distractions come my way sometimes. I don’t have much privacy where I live, so I tend to pray when most people are out of the house. Before I pray, I tend to read scripture and ask the Holy Spirit to guide me.

    1. Me too, Diana! I hear you about finding the space and time without distraction. I love how you pray and ask Holy Spirit to guide you. โ™ฅ๏ธ Thank you for sharing.

  2. How sweet of you to ask if your readers need Bibles! <3
I have a prayer closet – my "war room," as inspired by the movie of that name. But I also pray regularly while walking my dog. One of my favorite places to have morning devotions used to be sitting on the boulders on the shore of the lake where we lived.

    1. How wonderful! Thank you for sharing your prayer and devotions spots with us. ๐Ÿ˜Š Itโ€™s nice to know we can have a prayer closet wherever God leads us.
