Sirens

We were traveling along a road that had switch backs in the form of bridges crossing from one side to another and back again over the beautiful green and calm water of the Sacramento River in Northern California.

As we approached the last bridge I heard a siren and my heart began to race. Instantly I was a six year old first grader ducking under my desk, chest knees, knees to floor, clasping my hands behind my head as I ducked my head between my knees. It was a drill, it was only a drill.

The siren I heard that day was a relic from many years past when we were taught in school that should our country be under attack by the enemy, who might drop bombs in our area, duck and cover was our best hope of surviving an attack. We were in NorCal… It was the early 70’s…The entire upper half of the state was not thinking about any enemy or bomb dropping. The Vietnam war had ended and it was all about hippies, choppers and free love.

So why, on this recent day, upon hearing this hideous siren, was I momentarily gripped by a memory I haven’t thought of in over 50 years? Fear. It may have been by human doing in an attempt to keep us safe that actually caused many of us to allow the spirit of fear a small advance in our lives but it was the enemy of fear none the less.

There are many fears the enemy uses to try and keep us bound up rather than living a life of freedom in Jesus. Is/are there fear(s) you hold onto creating a stronghold/stumbling block in your life? Keeping you from nurturing a deep and intimate relationship with Jesus? Whispering in your ear keeping you from reading His love letters to you in His word?

Fear is a LIAR.

But there is hope. There is always hope. If you believe in Jesus as your Lord and Savior you have the authority and power of Holy Spirit in you to stomp on the head of fear or any other low life in the mighty, precious, life giving Name of Jesus!

Beautiful Friends, stay tethered to Jesus, asking Him to give you Scripture that you can write down or memorize about His truth about fear. Join or start a prayer text group or join a Bible study. Together we can stomp out fear throughout the Body of Christ and mobilize against the enemy as one.

The next time I hear this siren I will turn it back on the enemy and use this sound as a reminder to squish the head of fear in Jesus Name!

Shalom!

Life’s Simplicity

Don’t even think about following the bread crumb trail of evil—you’ll end up with worse than bread crumbs.

Life really can be simple but our human nature is to convolute our life by attempting to take control rather than surrender all to Him. And I am grateful in His grace He chooses to continue to teach me how to simplify my life.

Fearing the Lord is honoring Him. Following His guidance. Speaking words that encourage and brighten the life of others. Troubling thoughts that are given to Jesus and asking for Him to replace them with His thoughts about our identity in Him. Actions that cause others to take notice that there is something wonderfully different about you!

Shunning evil is turning aside from it. Don’t even think about following the bread crumb trail of evil—you’ll end up with worse than bread crumbs. This doesn’t mean we turn away from the evil being committed around us and around the world, no, rather in those instances we ask God how can we be a part of the change for His kingdom.

I love the word nourishment! It makes me think of satisfaction. God is our satisfaction in all areas of our life. Another reason to stay connected to Him daily for His nourishment to flow to us non-stop! Truly, the choice is ours it didn’t stop when we chose Jesus to be our Lord and Savior. Everyday we have the opportunity to choose Jesus. Not for salvation purposes [that choice is one time] but to choose Him daily for His wisdom, guidance, knowledge on how to live life.

Fear, shun, nourish. I pray you choose all three today and every day!

Fear

Fear. It can be so crippling.

As a little girl we spent many summer weekends at Santa Cruz Beach in Northern California. I loved splashing and playing in the water right at the shoreline and in view of the watchful eyes of my parents. “Don’t go too far out,” they would call to me every so often. One weekend, not heeding their instructions, I ventured out a little further than normal. Suddenly, I was caught in a small undertow that began to pull me in. I remember being so afraid. To this day I have a very strong respect for the power of the ocean.

Thankfully, my daddy was watching. He was a strong swimmer and he quickly rescued me.

Many times when we hear Holy Spirit warning us we are like a little child, venturing a little further than normal. Suddenly we can find ourselves in a situation where we feel we are about to drown.

But you have a Heavenly Father who wants to rescue you. Call out to Him for help. I promise He is closer than you think. He reaches His hand out to you. Will you grab it?

What Scares You?

Closeup portrait of cute young business woman What would it look like if every believer in Christ asked God to show them what it looks like for them to be more intimate with Him?

I believe the word intimacy scares many people. There is such rawness and vulnerability around this emotion. And fear, the unhealthy type, is a response to a supposed punishment. But, as a believer in Christ, He has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love and of a sound mind. Power, love and a sound mind are our inheritance in Christ and, yes, even our identity in Him!

37a37-052714-akpFor me today becoming more intimate with God means my willingness to look at the ugliness in my heart that I didn’t know was there. Thanking him for revealing it and asking him boldly to remove it. Even if the cost is temporary emotional upheaval. The outcome is more than I can ever hope or imagine!
