I Point to Him

For the first time in many, many weeks, maybe even months, I am sitting at my writing desk inspired to write. We have a wonderfully large window in our living room that faces our front yard, which is recovering nicely from the drought and is a joy to look upon again. It has been my habit to rise early, open the curtains to the still dark world and spend sweet time with Jesus in prayer and study of His Word. When God gave me the word restored for this year I thought it would be an easy journey of healing. What I haven’t shared is a few weeks after I received restored God also told me, “Your life is about to change.” I didn’t realize the deep struggle emotionally, spiritually and physically restoration would be. But I can’t say I was unprepared because God did tell me things were about to change. It is akin to pregnancy. Hopefully the time leading up to labor is delightful and expectant and then labor happens and it can be long, intense and painful right before new birth. I have been praying for healing for a few years and simply because it has been harder than anything I have ever done, I don’t want to miss God’s answer to my prayers. I am learning to trust the process, to seek God and not rely on my own understanding and above all thank and praise Him.

A few weeks ago during worship at church Holy Spirit spoke to my heart and I sensed something wonderful was about to happen when Fall began. Yesterday was the first day of my favorite season, (I wish it could be Fall all year long!) and this morning I sit at my desk overwhelmed by Who He Is and his amazing grace.

I want so badly just to finally get well
But I don’t want a quick fix and emotional self
I will be honest with my humanity
No I’m not perfect and I don’t pretend to be. We Are Messengers.

I point to Him.

Shalom!

Whenever the enemy aims his fiery arrows at you, hold up your shield of faith, which is part of your armor, and remind yourself who you are and to Whom you belong too. Fight with God’s word, which is the sword of the Spirit, another piece of your armor of God. You ARE a warrior fight like one. If you believe in Jesus as your Lord and Savior, HE testifies, he announces, he proclaims you ARE a child of God; hands OFF God’s chosen and beloved. If you don’t yet believe in Jesus as your Lord and Savior what do you have to lose? What is stopping you? What are you waiting for?

Precious One, fight well.

No Longer A Slave To Fear

This morning as I woke up these words from this song kept resonating through my mind “I’m no longer a slave to fear.” And as I sit at our big living room window looking out at the slightly foggy, mostly gray, wet dampness, as night turns into day, I felt led to listen to this song.

Immediately, Holy Spirit began to download a plethora of information. Over the past several weeks He has shown me that while the enemy has come to kill, steal and destroy, the drought IS over. that HE, the one true living God is restoring all the years that the enemy has stolen. That as a believer in Jesus Christ we have the authority to tell the mountains, that stand in our way and take our focus off of God, to move.

In quick succession the following verses came to mind.

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 1 Corinthians 3:17.

“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32.

So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:36.

I believe fear is one of the greatest weapons Satan uses to keep us bound and tied down. Fear immobilizes us. We know deep in our soul what God has called us to do, what our gifts are that we hear God, but fear, fear steps in and distracts us from what God’s calling is for us.

Here are some of the lyrics to No Longer Slaves

You unravel me with a melody
You surround me with a song
Of deliverance from my enemies
‘Til all my fears are gone

I am surrounded
By the arms of the father
I am surrounded
By songs of deliverance

As I continued to listen to this song I realized this is what deliverance feels like. It isn’t some big production with glitz and flashing lights. It is a subtle, gentle assurance like the petals of a rose as they drop one by one until there is nothing left.

Precious One, you are no longer a slave to fear. You have been set free.

Shalom!

Sheets of Rain

As I sit at our big living room window enjoying the last of the dark of night before the sun comes up, I am reminded of the song; Everything. Here are a few of the lyrics.

“God in my hoping; There in my dreaming; God in my watching; God in my waiting.”

And, I watch literal sheets of rain fall.

We live in the state that for the last five years we thought would become a desert, yes, that state. Now there may be concern that we might need to build an ark!

And yet, I see God. I see God in the sheets of rain. The visible presence of a supernatural and loving God.

I am overwhelmed, I am awed and I am humbled that my God would choose to reveal Himself in a very real and tangible way. He doesn’t have too; Scripture tells us we walk by faith not by sight. He loves us so much He many times chooses to show us that his presence is always with us and there are countless times we completely miss these beautiful blessings of His nearness to us.

Precious One, the drought is over in more ways than one, but you can only see this by staying connected to The Vine.

Childhood Nicknames

fullsizeoutput_417

I have a childhood nickname that has always been endearing to me because the two youngest of my older brothers have called me by this nickname for as long as I can remember. I will be 54 this year and they still occasionally call me by this nickname. Even some of their friends, who grew up at our house and are ‘brothers’, still call me by this childhood name.

My brothers have never had an explanation as to where this name came from, they simply starting calling me Boosh and it is pronounced phonetically as it appears.

I’m a big proponent of speaking life into the lives of others. Life is truth and truth reaches down to our souls and settles there like a welcomed visitor. Imagine my surprise as I was reading Psalm 127:5 and felt led to look up one word in its original context.

How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them; They will not be ashamed when they speak with their enemies in the gate. Psalm 127:5.

The word I looked up is ashamed and in its original context it is the Hebrew word boosh. Now, I can guarantee you with one hundred percent certainty that my brothers did not mean to speak shame into my life in any way, shape or form. However, just as God will use anything to get our attention, even a speaking donkey. Satan will use whatever means he can to destroy our lives; mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically. And true to his devious, deceptive and hideous nature, we may not recognize his path of destruction for years. That is why I cannot stress enough how important it is to engage in spiritual disciplines on a daily basis, especially reading and studying God’s word.

Recently I was reminded of these verses in Joel.

“Then I will make up to you for the years
That the swarming locust has eaten,
The creeping locust, the stripping locust and the gnawing locust,
My great army which I sent among you.

“You will have plenty to eat and be satisfied
And praise the name of the LORD your God,
Who has dealt wondrously with you;
Then My people will never be put to shame. Joel 2:25-26.

And look it there, the very last word of verse 26. There is no way, my friends, I could have planned that. This is a total God thing.

Precious One may you also be restored for the years the locusts have stolen.

Stay connected to The Vine.

Shalom!

Rainbow Promises

fullsizeoutput_415

We ought to approach and worship God with freedom and boldness, especially in speech, leaving a witness that our requests deserve to be taken seriously and receive God’s grace as a gift and blessing given by Jesus. To assertively take hold of his mercy and grace that he freely offers and where we find strategic and timely assistance that meets an urgent situation or need.

Waiting

fullsizeoutput_413

I don’t know about you, but waiting is hard for me, yet patience is a fruit of the Spirit, that which is done in true partnership with Christ. When we wait on the Lord we WILL see his goodness in the land of the living, which includes this current age and our lifetime and in our lives.

Precious One, persevere in the Lord. Wait on Him.

Put On Your Stompin’ Boots

img_2848

I sit at my desk looking out my big front window as the pre dawn morning begins to take shape. Commuters leaving their houses to get to their jobs, mostly likely traveling down the craziest two lane road left in our once small farming community, that has become one of the more expensive places to rent and own and raise a family. I pray for them.

And, as I sit and pray for my family I am struck by the many changes that have happened already in this new year. I no longer make resolutions for each new year because every day is an opportunity to become more of the person God created me to be. To be restored by Him and released from the years of familial spiritual bondage that takes our focus off of God and causes us to forget that we walk in victory, we walk in the love of a Savior who died a torturous death on a cross for the forgiveness of sins for all mankind. The bondage that causes us to forget the truth of God’s word and his promises.

Jesus said, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.” (Matthew 28:18). He also said, “I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.” (Luke 10:19).

Father God gave his beloved Son, Jesus all authority in heaven and earth and Jesus gives us authority to trample on snakes, serpents, lions and scorpions. Interestingly, one of the words in the original text for serpent is monster. I think that is an accurate description of the enemy. And regardless of what childhood memories the word monster may bring up for you, we overcome all the power of the enemy and nothing; no man, woman or thing, will harm us; acting contrary what is divinely approved.

Here is the key and I can’t say this often enough, we must practice the spiritual discipline of reading and studying God’s word daily. A few verses back from the one in the cobra picture, we read:

If you say, “The LORD is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling. Psalm 91:9.

When you make the Lord your shelter, the place you hang out the most, that safe and trusted place then surely you will tread on the lion and the cobra and trample the great lion and the serpent.

Precious One, press in and persevere, sit in the presence of the Lord and put on your stompin’ boots.

Shalom!

President Elect

Over two thousand years ago a man and a woman travelled from Nazareth in Galilee to the town of David in Bethlehem and most likely they walked the entire distance of roughly 70 miles. The woman was pregnant at the time, very pregnant, yet because Caesar Augustus had proclaimed a census to be taken over the entire Roman world, this man and woman were compelled to make this trip back to the town of the man’s birth for he was a descendent in the line of David, King David and there was no other choice.

While this man and woman were in Bethlehem in the town of David the woman went into labor and gave birth to a baby boy. A Miracle was born. A Miracle because the woman was a virgin yet here she was giving birth to a baby boy, imagine that! And, because there were absolutely NO rooms available the woman gave birth in a manger. Talk about humbleness and humility.

This boy grew in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man. When he was a man people followed him throughout Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea and the region across the Jordan, because, get this, he not only taught the good news of his Father’s kingdom he was healing people! People who were suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed, just to name a few, AND HE healed them.

Sadly, the people, most of them, that he came to save; HIS chosen people, rejected Him, the Living Miracle. But God had chosen HIM for such a time as this.

Once again, God has chosen a man for such a time as this. You may ask how can God choose a man that has purportedly been accused of rape, racism and hate?

I can only tell you what God has done in the past. He used Moses, who was a murderer to deliver his people out of Egypt, He used David, who was an adulterer to be the king of an entire nation, His nation and ultimately the descendant line he chose to birth his Son into and from, God chose the birth line of an adulterer to be the ancestral line of his Son, huh. The Son who was born in a manger, who came not to judge the world but to save the world through Him.

Precious One, miracles are real and God is still in the miracle business. I pray and truly believe HE will do wondrous and miraculous things through the man HE has chosen.

Shalom!
